The Three Doctors in Rochester, NY!!

As I was searching youtube for a book trailer on We Beat the Street, I stumble upon a video of the Three Doctors speaking to students at Edison Tech High School a few years ago. The students actually created projects and study groups which focused on Sharon M. Draper's book about 5 years ago. I think it's wonderful that all three of the doctors were able to make an appearance at the high school and speak to students on the importance of education and achieving their dreams, despite obstacles in life. I can only imagine how special this day was for the students, because it gave them a chance to meet three individuals whom were in situations similar to their own.  I wish I had an opportunity to meet many of the influential authors in my life while growing up. Genuinely jealous of these students!

  1. Keara, you have no idea how happy I am that you found this! I was at S.T.E.M. High School in the Edison Tech building for my special education Practicum placement. I'm SO HAPPY that the three doctors went to Edison Tech to talk to the students. From a first hand experience I know that those students struggle. The struggle between choosing right and wrong, whether to even come to school, or to give into peer pressures is a daily struggle there. At a high school level, there is something incredibly different and heart wrenching than at an elementary level for me personally. Since it was only 5 years ago, I'm sure that some of the students I was working with were still there. I wish I had known about the three doctors or their visit to the school so I could have talked to the kids about them and see if they had an impact.

  2. Keara, I agree this is a great book. I am glad to hear that you don't think its lost its cache even though it is almost 10 years old. By the way, did you read my post in response to this book? I'd love to know what you think.
